ReImagine Reno website debuted to the Neighborhood Advisory Boards

City staff gave a brief presentation to the Neighborhood Advisory Board (NAB) members during their training session on June 24th. The NAB members learned about the Master Plan update process and the planned public engagement program, ReImagine Reno, including an advanced preview of the ReImagine Reno website. ReImagine Reno hopes to leverage the NABs over the coming months as a key channel for ideas and feedback.

I was born in Reno in 1942. I have always loved Reno and the northern Nevada area. But I have watched Reno deteriorate over the years and now it has become seedy and dirty. Frankly, I don’t know why tourists continue to come here. There are derelict buildings and store fronts and the downtown area is not a pleasant place to visit.

Today on the news they said you are planning to spend $250,000 on a new logo. I believe that money would be better spent in cleaning up the downtown area. We need to refurbish our town first. Then when things look much better, perhaps then we can consider a new logo.

Please clean up Reno’s downtown and make it a nice place to visit once more. Thank you in advance!!

Hi Anthony,

Thank you for your comments. One of the City Council’s five strategic priorities is to build a Vibrant Downtown. There are a couple of ways they’re working to achieve this priority:

$1M in resources for a new Blight Mitigation Fund to demolish unsafe buildings.

Dedicating resources to a Blight Initiative which includes 6 neighborhood cleanups and replacing street garbage cans with Big Belly Solar Bins.

A new Multi-Family Crime Free Training program for downtown business owners.

New sign ordinance amendments and licensing regulations.

High Sierra Industries Program

I couldn’t agree more with Anthony. I have lived here 28 years, coming here from the UK, and have also watched the deterioration of our downtown area. The Riverside area is so pleasant, but, when you can’t find a park bench to relax on because they are all occupied by homeless people sleeping on them or on the green lawn areas, it puts our family off going into town, and then walking around and seeing all the derelict buildings, trash and dirty streets, ugh! My visitors from Europe are aghast at all of the above. There is one public restroom facility next to the basketball court on the bridge which is absolutely shameful, that is, if you can even enter the building because that’s where the homeless are camping out in bad weather. We are all empathetic towards those less fortunate than ourselves, but when ordinary tax paying citizens can’t avail themselves of the downtown amenities, which our dollars pay for, there’s something seriously wrong. $250K for a new logo???? That symbolizes right there what’s wrong with Reno. That money would be so much better spent on upgrading, cleaning, and sprucing up the downtown area. It might even pay for a new Restroom. City Planners-get your act together!

Thank you for your comments. We recently hosted a workshop to address homelessness in downtown Reno. Providing better services for our homeless community is a top priority for the Reno City Council.

I came here from Chicago about twelve years ago, on my way to California. While here, I checked out your little city and decided to stay…
You have everything here…Philharmonic orchestras. a top rated art museum, and plenty of sports activities.
And that’s not all. There’s plenty of additional activities to keep my interests active.
Top rated Broadway shows and musicals. Balloon races and a jaw dropping Rodeo. And some of the most beautiful wild scenery imaginable.

And you know something else…I’m still happy that I decided to stay here!

I was going to complete your Survey but you require my income and I will not give you this information. What does my income have to do my answers?
