Reimagine Reno is a public engagement process to create a new Master Plan for the City of Reno.

Our city has grown dramatically in the last 20 years. Our economy has shifted. And our population has changed – we are more diverse and better educated.  Many of our residents and visitors enjoy the quality of life in the Truckee Meadows and the new opportunities that are starting to emerge. In a two-year process called Reimagine Reno, the City of Reno will update the master plan so the City can continue to grow in positive ways for the next 20 years.

Process

The Master Plan will require roughly two years to complete. Phase I: Encompasses evaluation of the existing Master Plan and visioning for the future. Phase II: Involves drafting new and updated policy and obtaining approvals from Reno Planning Commission and the Reno City Council.

Scope

The Master Plan is an evolving, long-term planning document that provides a vision for the built environment of a city. It guides the appropriate use of lands in order to protect the quality of life for citizens and promote efficient provision of services. Learn more about what is and isn’t involved.

Various stakeholder groups will be convened throughout the process to obtain input to inform specific aspects and the plan generally. Such groups include the Neighborhood Advisory Boards (NABs),  business leaders, neighborhood associations, merchant associations, policy advocates, community service providers, education professionals, students, and young professionals, among others.

The Planning Commission and City Council have provided the guidance that supports Reimagine Reno’s intent and approach and will be involved throughout the development of the updated Master Plan. The final plan is expected to be formally adopted by the Commission and Council in 2017.

City Manager’s Office staff and Community Development staff will manage the overall process and coordinate the work of all other groups. Staff will also provide subject matter knowledge and expertise to each element of the Master Plan.

Broad input and two-way learning. Widespread public involvement is vital to Reimagine Reno’s success. Open town hall meetings will be offered through October 2015 to support Phase 1. Public outreach to support Phase 2 will be announced later in the year. Sign-up to receive event announcements and updates on the planning process. Learn more about the two-phase process.

There are several concurrent and ongoing efforts to address topics that are critical to Reno’s future but outside the City’s direct control. The City will coordinate with agencies such as the Regional Transportation Commission for alignment and to magnify the impact of Reimagine Reno.
